When it comes to hill stations, we always percieve a circuitous drive around mountains to reach a peak point, where one sees everyone from ones home town.

At this hill station, everything is charged at twice the normal rate and every one is busy selling/buying caps, sweaters, suveniors.

None of this at Satara. It is clearly different.

It is a hill station where the hills are surrounding the station. :)

Satara is very much on the main NH-4 and here the hotels are cheap and so is the food. Lastly noone hunts u to buy caps and shells.

Satara gets its name from the seventeen mountain tops that surround it. Satra = seventeen in marathi.

One can choose one day for each mountain range and come down to stay in the city. The drive is safe, smooth and filled with great scenery. The ride is gentle and one can stop anywhere and enjoy the scenery.

Its a place, where one can actually settle. Stay for a month and then go back home.

For someone who wants to be with himself..and does not want too many stories to tell others, Satara is the place.
